Slideshow

Here's a slideshow from the entire trip. OK, Youtube disabled the audio on this because the songs are owned by WMG. I completed the dispute form and the audio has been restored.

Er Hu Lesson

On the way out from our lightning tour of the Temple of Heaven, Kristi got a free lesson on how to play the Er Hu. The Er Hu is a two stringed fiddle popular in northern China.

Language Lesson

Earlier in our travels, David was teaching the girls a few words of chinese on the bus ride to Zhouxian. They are practicing in the video.

Cab Driver Gets A Break

We are all home now, bu there is still so much I have not posted yet. One of the highlights of this trip was when Kevin asked if he could drive one of the electric taxis we used getting from the hotel to Living Tree. When he mentioned this, I said all you can do is ask. Next thing we know, Brett is over asking one of the drivers if Kevin could drive the cab. Kevin gets out his U.S. drivers license to show the two drivers Bret was talking with. They just laughed. Then one of the drivers let Kevin sit in the driver seat while he sat in the back. We took pictures. I figured this was as far is it would go, but then the driver was showing Kevin some of the controls. He was going to get to drive. I had to see this. Heather Fran and I jumped in the back of the cab with the driver and Kevin Drove us back to Living Tree from the shopping street we were at He followed the other drivers with the rest of our group as we took the back alley route through town.

Day 2 at Living Tree

Went to each of the Living Tree homes, Love Home, Joy Home and Peace
Home, at 9am. I was with the group that went to Joy Home. These are some
of the photos.

More from Light of Hope Orphanage

This is out of order because I am resending it. The first post was
bounced by the mail server for size limit.

On to Yanjiaou and Living Tree Orphanage

After our visit to Light of Hope Orphanage was over we returned on the
long bus ride to Beijing to rest. The next day and a shorter bus ride to
Yanjiou brings us to our next visit to Living Tree Orphanage. We settled
in at the Venus Hotel, had lunch, and went on a short walk about before
heading to Living Tree to meet with Tina. We all managed to fit into
five of the local electric 3-wheel cart cabs to get to the orphanage a
couple miles away. These cabs were a little more interesting than a
regular cab.

More Zhouxian

More photos of the children. These are from Kevin's photos. I have been
gathering pics from everyone in the group to get different points of view.

Zhouxian continued

More photos from Zhouxian. Ms. Cai meets Moses. Heather gives Zhou the
carpenter a carbide saw blade. Rita holds one of the little ones.

Zhouxian

Most of the older children were still at school when we arrived at the
orphanage in Zhouxian. Four boys were leaving for school when we arrived.

On the Road to Zhouxian

After breakfast, we boarded the bus that Bill had arranged for us to go
to Zhouxian. As we left the city for the country, we could see mostly
fields of wheat and some corn.
Shijiazhuang is a small city we stopped at for lunch. It happens to be
Ms. Cia's hometown. We went to a restaurant she recommended. I did not
catch the name of it.

Today we go to Zhou Xian

I know the post have been sparse. I have been trying to catch up.
Initial problems with internet access delay much of my progress. I am
updating this one on the road to Zhou Xian. We had a quick breakfast
this morning at a noodle shop down the street from the hotel. Then
loaded on to a tour bus to head to Zhou Xian. This and some other posts
will be sent when I get back to the hotel tonight.

Great Wall

The next day of our trip we went to the Badaling Great Wall.

A little shopping for shoes.

After some shopping at the Pearl Market we went to the Silk Market to
pick up an order of shoes to take to the kids at Zhou Xian.

Trip to Pearl Market and then the Silk Market

After lunch in the Hutong neighborhood, we took cabs to the Pearl
Market. These photos are of some of the people we saw on the way out of
the Hutong.
